     生命、黑暗、死亡、慾望一直是吳衍震作品的核心。童年"野孩子"般的經驗，給與予擁有溫和天性的藝術家一個出口去探討這個世界。相較於早期不加矯飾地表現社會底層黑暗風貌，吳衍震的作品越漸形成完整的黑暗普普美學，黑暗核心的「實」，與色彩鮮艷的「體」，作品中不變的是探究恐懼與慾望的主題，變的是流動式的、色彩鮮艷的映照出現代社會的快速變化與價值觀追求。
對於本能觸及外在世界的反應以及體內自發的慾望，吳衍震巧妙穿梭在自身的體驗與現代社會的各式反射裡，以不畏描寫真實的勇氣與幽默趣味的扭曲，讓作品散發神態自若的抽離與觀察。

    Life, darkness, death and desire have been the central subjects of Yen-Cheng Wu's art.  As a kid growing up in the suburbs, childhood experience opened a door to the world for this mild artist. Compared with this artist's previous work, the raw depiction of lives from the lower specturm in the society, his new work has shaped into a more mature form-Black Pop Art. The dark, hard, sharp truth is still the core in his art, but at the same time, its humerous and vivacious "body" makes this work comprehensive. The semi-realistic, quasi-comic style as well as the contrary concepts that play together in his work are a visualiization of the artist's idea of wanton modern life - While people run to what they aspire and to what they desire, the aspiration and the desire are transformed along the way, gradually evolving into both spiritual and materilistic consumerism.
The desires to understand the world and to understand himself drive this artist to observe, absorb, and produce artwork that reflects of all sorts of phenomena from modern society in a gritty and witty way.
